Primary Years Program Objectives
The PYP philosophy which we have
built into our curriculum focuses on building certain
characteristics within each individual child. Our objective
is to make sure that every child starts full time school
with a good basic understanding of the following qualities:
· Inquirers
Children ask questions, investigate problems and show
curiosity.
· Thinkers
Children can use critical and creative thinking skills
to seek solutions and solve problems.
· Communicators
Children are able to communicate both verbally and
non-verbally in a range of situations using a variety
of mediums including technology and art.
· Risk
takers
Children are not afraid to try out new ideas or to
make mistakes.
· Knowledgeable
Children are acquiring a widening range of concepts
and a bank of knowledge about themselves and the world
around them.
· Principled
Children are able to make decisions based on honesty,
fairness and ethics.
· Caring
Children are understanding and supportive of each other
and those around them; they are able to share their
emotions.
· Open-minded
Children are able to embrace new ideas or points of
view positively and can acknowledge the opinions, culture
and beliefs of other people.
· Well-balanced
Children show a positive attitude towards all aspects
of school life.
· Reflective
Children are able to reflect on the actions or opinions
of themselves or others and make decisions or give advice
about how they may do something differently in the future.
