Name:  Larry Patrick

Qualification:  Early Childhood Education

Presently teaching / Department:  Founder

Larry, founder of Happy Days International Preschool, is an expert in Early Childhood Education. In addition to his degree in Early Childhood Education obtained from the University of Colorado, he has taught children in Japan for ten years and has eight years of experience in School Management. Mr. Patrick believes in a self-directed teaching philosophy that emphasizes physical, cognitive, sensory and ascetic activities. He advocates language development through the whole language approach that includes, but is not limited to, phonics, music and writing; and a constructivist approach for mathematics via hands-on and real world experiences. He is skilled in incorporating Total Physical Response (TPR) into educational programs which provides astounding, well-rounded learning opportunities for young children. He will work closely with the School Director to develop an innovative program for Happy Days International Preschool.

 

Name:  Saki Hayashi

Qualification:  Early Childhood Care and Education Certificate, BA in Psychology

Presently teaching / Department:  Stars

As a qualified Early Childhood Educator, Saki brings to Happy Days a healthy background in respect to child growth and development, guiding and caring, health, safety and nutrition, music and movement, creative art and theme based curriculum. In addition, Sakis experience as a volunteer worker at Brunswick Child Development center in Vancouver has given her numerous wonderful learning opportunities which she brings to Happy Days. A gentle personality coupled with patience and a real love for the little ones mean that all our Stars and Moonshine children are in great hands.

 

Name:  Anthony Trotter

Qualification:  Bachelor of Social Science (IR and HRM)

Presently teaching / Department:  Director

Anthony is a dynamic, compassionate educator from New Zealand. With several years experience in Japan at the early childhood education level, Anthony is committed to providing all our children with a relaxed yet structured, positive atmosphere that is conducive to learning and building both self-confidence and esteem. Anthony's energetic approach and dedication to Happy Days is a definite asset to the school, the parents and the students. At Happy Days parents are able to speak with staff on a daily basis about their child's progress and as Director of the school Anthony is always accessible.

 

Name:  Valerie Prentice

Qualification:  Bachelor of Science

Presently teaching / Department:  Sunshine Class Head Teacher

Valerie joins us with an extensive background in Youth Camps having worked in both Germany and Italy for Camp Adventure USA. Valerie's hands on experience in designing fun and educational activities will be part of the invaluable experience offered to our children here at Happy Days. Prior to joining Happy Days Valerie also taught in China where she worked in child education. Her varied background filled with experiences from several countries will add to our international environment. Valerie has an energetic and friendly disposition coupled with her obvious love of children. Her determination to see that each child has the chance to reach their full potential while also having fun is a real asset to our school and our children.

 

Name:  Anthony Rowe

Qualification:  Bachelor of Education

Presently teaching / Department:  Rainbow Class Head Teacher

Anthony hails from Australia and has a Bachelor of Education Degree. Anthony specializes in Literacy, Mathematics and Physical Education. Anthony is doing a wonderful job with the Rainbow class and is very popular amongst his students. Over the past year Anthony has been working with 3 year olds in Gunma where he was an instructor in a preschool program. In addition Anthony is First Aid certified and is also qualified to teach swimming and water safety. Anthonys outgoing and cheerful personality are a great asset to our warm and friendly school.

 

Name:  Tracey Hughes

Qualification:  Bachelor of Arts

Presently teaching / Department:  Stars and Moonshine Head Teacher

We are delighted to have Tracey join us here at Happy Days. Tracey comes from Ireland and has been living and working in Japan for the past 3 years. Tracey has a wonderful way with the small children and has an abundance of patience and energy. She is very warm and in addition to Saki provides the Stars and Moonshine class with plenty of love and room to grow. This is a wonderful class and it is constantly filled with lots of laughter and happy faces both on the children and the teachers.

 

Name:  Mayuka Thais Nagasawa

Qualification:  Bachelor of Fine Arts, Painting Major, Art Education Minor

Presently teaching / Department:  Sunshine

Mayuka is another welcome addition to our wonderful team of teachers here at Happy Days. Having taught at International Schools both in Japan and the United States Mayuka brings a vast array of creative talent to our program. In addition to teaching piano to our Sunshine and Rainbow classes, Mayuka also will be leading our art classes and introducing performing arts to the children. This class will help children express themselves rhythmically and artistically through music and play. Having grown up in a Multicultural family Mayuka is able to relate to and understand the many wonderful advantages that children are able to enjoy in an International School. Mayuka's warmth and passion for teaching will be a fantastic addition to the existing positive energy and vibrancy within Happy Days
